I have said many times in my life, that I feel that I was born 200 years too late. With that said, it is natural for me to be drawn to log homes. I love the out of doors and living in the country and there nothing that fits the out of doors and country living than a log home.
My history with Tennessee Log Homes goes back to 1987. This was when I had decided that I was going to build my first log home. This is where I learned that folks in East Tennessee are blessed to have many fine log home suppliers in the region. The hard part is deciding which company you want to work with. To be honest, I was looking to one of the leading competitors of Tennessee Log Homes at first. The reason I did not go that direction was because when I went to the home office of that company with one of the dealers, I was not given the time of day and left feeling really unappreciated. I thought if this was the way they were treating me up front, I definitely did not want them as my log home company.
Then, I found a newspaper article about a log home seminar that was being held by Tennessee Log Homes in the Seymour area. That is also where I was planning to build. I thought this would be a great idea to attend this. At least I would gain some knowledge as to log home construction. At this seminar, is where I met two very important people that helped me to make up my mind, Alan Elliot and Burton Webb. Alan was the sells representative and Burton was the son of the owner of Tennessee Log, Dexter Webb. I found the seminar very informative and left that day realizing that Tennessee Log Homes was the company I wanted to deal with.
I first talked to Alan about our plans and found the house we were interested in. Alan helped set up a meeting with both Burton and Dexter as to how to make this happen. It did not take long before we found ourselves in our beautiful Hamilton Log Home in Seymour from Tennessee Log Homes.
This home was in a subdivision, kind of sort of in the country, but still a subdivision and we want to be a bit more in the country and with a little more elbow room. We found a 26 acre farmland for sell after a couple of years, close by, and decided to purchase it. We then decided we wanted to build on it and of course, another log home. The first experience with Tennessee Log had gone so well, we decided to return to Tennessee Log for our second log home. This proved to be such a great decision. As with fine wine, we found that Tennessee Log had grown even better. I was so impressed how Tennessee Log worked with me on the second house. When delivery was scheduled not only did they deliver my package, they delivered the lumber in stages that was helpful to build the house. In other words, they did not just deliver all my logs, lumber, doors and windows at one time where I would have to try and keep all the wood covered until needed. This was great!!!
As before, we now found ourselves in a beautiful new log home. This time we built the Cherokee. Another difference this time was I did most of the finish work myself and saved a bunch of money. I mention this, for as I was doing the work, all I had to do was call Tennessee Log Home should I have a question with what I was doing. They were always helpful to make sure I was doing my work correctly. The home was beautiful and many times I found myself sitting on the front porch looking not believing what I had.
I lived there for about 11 years. Because of some hard personal problems that came up, I found myself leaving behind this place that I loved so dearly. For a year, I lived in an apartment, which was not at all my style. During that year, I found 5 and half beautiful acres right at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains with views to die for. I was fortunate to buy the land and live in a single wide mobile home on the property. This was not a log home, but what the heck, I was even deeper in the country. It was during this time, I received a quasi new beginning in my life. I was soon married to a wonderful lady who shared my same dreams and aspirations in life. I moved into her home after we were married and we began to dream about some day building a log home on the 5 and half acres. We had a brainstorm a little after we were married and sold her house, took the equity, bought a doublewide an put it where my single wide had been. We now thought in ten years, maybe we can build our dream home.

When the economy when south and interest rates dropped to all time lows, we realized that maybe now was the time to build our home. So I contacted my sub contractors from before, and sent an e-mail to Tennessee Log Home to see if this was doable. After meeting Nick Webb from Tennessee Log Homes and putting figures together, we realize again with work and determination we could make it happen. We decide to build the Tellico Lodge for with its window configuration, its perfect for the lay of our land. After we received great help of Nick Webb, Karen Salinas, and many others, we found ourselves building the house of our dreams.
The house is not completed yet, but we are just a few weeks from being there. I do hope this is my last home, but should the need arise, and I started to build another home, it would definitely be log and would definitely come from Tennessee Log Homes.
