Lateral Notch Being Scribed and Cut |

| Log is set directly above the top course and braced. A SCRIBE is used to mark the contour of the log below and transfer that exact contour to the bottom of the log above. Pencil marks are made on the logs. | ||

| The scriber cuts along the pencil line. The craftsmen are extremely precise. A v-notch is made that has the contour of the log that will be below this one in the wall. | ||

| A chisel is used to "fine-tune" the cutting that was done. When completed, half of the pencil line remains. | ||

| Fiberglass insulation is stapled in the lateral notch and saddle notch and acts as a gasket. | ||

| Once the log is stacked back on top of the wall, it is a perfect contour match with the log below. See for yourself below. Note, the lateral notch is not exposed to view when the log walls are finished. The three pictures below are of log ends at a window opening. Any log ends left exposed to view do not show the notch (the notch stops short of the end). | ||
