The centerpiece of the great room is a
built-in fireplace with stainless steel hood.
"I had a local welder here in Jamestown build the hood. It is all stainless steel, octagon shaped and 44 inches across. It cost approximately $2,500. The same size in plain steel would be around $1,500. If one chooses to burn wood, the flue should be around 20 inches to create a proper draft. However a gas vent free has no heat loss. The hearth is covered with 16" porcelain tile and the fire pit is poured concrete used in making fire brick. The sides are covered with 2.25" white oak on a 45 degree angle.
