CABINETS                 When attaching wall cabinets to log walls, secure the cabinet to the log wall only at the top of the cabinet, not at the top and bottom, and only into one course of log.  If cabinets are attached at both the top and bottom to two different course of the log wall, the natural log settlement process may bind or damage the cabinets.  However, you may cut a two-inch vertical slot in the back of the cabinet at its bottom through which you may loosely attach the cabinet to the log wall.  Screw through the bottom of this slot, elevating two-inches of slot above the screw.  This will hold the cabinet to the wall but will allow the cabinet to settle with the log attached to the cabinet top.                 Base cabinets which sit on the subfloor can be attached to the subfloor and to the log wall.  However, a slot should be cut in the back of the cabinet at its top through which you may loosely attach the cabinet to the log wall.  Wall cabinets are hanging on the log wall and can settle with the wall and meet no resistance.  Base cabinets, on the other hand, are sitting on the subfloor.  If base cabinets are attached to the log wall without using slots as described above, natural log settlement may push the cabinet down against the subfloor and may bind or break the cabinet.                 Do not attach countertops and vanities to log walls, especially ceramic tile countertops.  The backsplash of countertop can butt loosely against the log wall but should not be attached to it.                 Refer back to the section entitled “ELECTRICAL” for information on wiring to outlets above countertops and vanities.
